A Walk for Lotto Tickets

A spontaneous walk to buy a lotto ticket at Couche-Tard turned into a quiet black-and-white photo session with my Fujifilm X20. Simple scenes, everyday light — and a small surprise: I won $20. Proof that sometimes, luck finds you when you’re just out looking for moments.

Black & White with the Fujifilm X20

Sometimes photography happens when you’re not even trying.

This afternoon, I stepped out just to buy a lotto ticket at the local Couche-Tard. Nothing planned, no project in mind — just a small camera, the Fujifilm X20, slung around my wrist. The streets were quiet, the sky soft and grey.

But as always, when I have a camera in hand, the world begins to speak.

The empty crosswalk, a man walking his dog, the reflection of a traffic light on wet pavement — small scenes, but somehow enough.

The X20 isn’t new, but it still has that Fujifilm soul — crisp, timeless, imperfect in the best way. Shooting in black and white makes me look slower, notice more: how shadows stretch, how light hits the window of a convenience store, how even silence has its texture.

I didn’t plan for anything today — just a short errand for a lotto ticket. But I came back with a handful of quiet photos, and a little surprise: I actually won $20.

Not much, but it felt poetic — a small reward for paying attention. Maybe that’s what photography is: a way of winning small moments that most people walk past.

I smiled, pocketed the ticket, and walked home. The light was already changing.
